Powers by being alien or supernatural. "Supernatural" means above nature and the word "alien" is nearly synonymous.
No wonder that most of the basic monsters also had comics, too many titles to mention here.
Hmmm, Superman came out when? Late 70's? And that was followed by the 80's horror movie. Therefore, if Superhero movies start doing poorly (Thor? Capt. America? Green Lantern?) then will there will be a rise--a harkening back to--the 80's horror film, ending the current trend in horror movies of what some call torture porn and against which I will not argue.
(Notes on words: I'm sure I'm using "harkening" at least close to the way it should be, but a cursory glance hasn't led me to the correct form.)
